This sculptural artwork of the mysterious John Dory fish is built entirely from salvaged clock and watch components caught as if mid-glide through the shadows of a reef. The body is formed from layered gears and horology components, their brassy tones catching the light as scales might shimmer underwater. The fins are crafted from gold-plated wire and a fine mesh, shaped to resemble the delicate, ray-like fins. Central to the piece is its signature feature — a hand-painted glass cabochon set into the side, echoing the John Dory's famous black spot that has followed this curious fish through folklore for centuries, its glossy finish catching the eye first against the textured brass. Every part has lived a previous life ticking away in a pocket watch or mantel clock, and the wear, patina, and colour variation across the components mean no two sculptures will ever be quite the same.
